Adidas Adizero Aegis Shoe Review

It has been a month since I had the Adizero Aegis with me.  So far, I was able to run with them for about 15KMs only.  I never wanted to run with them on the rain.  I don’t want mud to smear is clean white appearance.  And I haven’t used any of my lightweight shoes as I trained for the 21K in Bacolod.  Thus, they had a small mileage after one month.

The Adidas classifies their Adizero Aegis as a lightweight stability shoe which is for runners who are normal to slight overpronators.  They are designed as trainers and boasts to be the lightest stability shoe in the market.

Adizero Aegis

Here is my review of the Adizero Aegis:

Pros

  • Lightweight.  The strength of the Adizero Aegis comes from its weight.  You can easily fly around with these shoes.  Great for speed trainings.  The soles are well designed to promote midfoot and forefoot running too.
  • Good traction in the road.  I often used them after the rain when the roads are wet and slippery and the soles had a good grip on the road for both concrete and asphalt surfaces.  But do take extra caution when running fast on wet surfaces.
  • Good reputation.  The biggest selling point of the Adizero Aegis and the rest of the Adizero series is that this is the shoe worn by Haile Gebrselassie when he broke the world record for the 42K.  Talk about putting yourself in another person’s shoes.

Cons

  • Narrow fit.  The small form factor of the shoe was not appropiate for my wide feet.  They hug my feet too tight even if I already wear thin socks.  They felt awkward for me and I can’t wear them too long without feeling uncomfortable due to the way they squeeze my foot at the sides.

Summary

Adidas Adizero Aegis is for runners with normal to slight overpronation and who are looking for lightweight trainers.  There are a few stability shoes that are lightweight and it is good that Adidas are able to offer these type of shoes.  But these shoes doesn’t have a good fit for runners who have wide feet like me.
