Heart Rate to Determine Baby’s Gender

Yesterday I talked about the new maximum heart rate calculation for women. Now I’m going to talk about heart rate in relation to a baby’s gender.  Quennie and I, and other Takbo.ph members have a codename for our baby: Chickie.

Last Monday, Quennie and I visited Doc D, a fellow runner and Quennie’s OB, for Quennie’s monthly check up.  It’s Quennie’s third check up and for the third time, Doc D’s first question was if Quennie joined a running event.  It is a week after Runfest and Doc was wondering if Quennie joined the run.  We can’t resist talking about running.

Last month, Quennie showed me Chickie’s first baby picture.  An ultrasound image of Chickie who could be barely seen in the picture.  Now on it’s 12th week, Doc D said that it was possible to hear the Chickie’s heart beat.  Wow.

Doc D got her ultra hi-tech device that can make us listen to the heart beat.  It was small device and I would love to trade my Garmin 405 with that gadget so I can hear Chickie everyday.  😀

It took a few seconds for Doc D to hit the spot.  The sound was a bit static and sounds like an old AM radio.  But the rhythm was very distinct.  It was Chickie’s heartbeat.

Doc D looked at her watch and took the heart rate and it was 160+ I think.  She said it was too fast and could mean that chickie may not be getting enough sleep.  Quennie was adviced to drink plenty of water for Chickie to have better rests.

Quennie was a bit worried and started searching about the baby’s heart rate in the internet.  And here’s one of the info she got.

A heart-rate of less than 140 beats per minute means that you’re having aboy while a heart-rate of over 140 beats per minutes means that you’re having a girl.

Whoa.  Some old wives tale since there is very little scientific evidence to prove it.  Most studies disproves this.  But still it makes me excited.

Is it a girl?  What do you think?
