Nike Introduces Nike+ SportWatch GPS
It’s the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas where consumer products and hot gadgets are being announced and showcased. Nike just announced a new gadget for runners, a Nike Sportswatch with GPS!
Unlike the Nike+ iPod, the Nike+ Sportswatch now comes with GPS powered by Tomtom. Tomtom is also a provider of location and navigation system. It will be available starting April 1, 2011 in the US. No price has been announced yet. It could be in the Php 8,000-12,000 range. Just my guess.
Overall, it’s like combining the best features of their Nike+ GPS in iPod or iPhone, the Nike+ Shoe Sensor, and the NikePlus.com website.
Here are the features of the Nike+ Sportswatch GPS:
- GPS and foot sensor. I don’t know how it will work but the Nike+ SportWatch GPS will combine GPS with the shoe-based Nike+ sensor to track time, pace, distance, calories burned, and heart rate.
- Tap Screen for setting laps and activating backlight.
- Run History with data from past runs.
- Quick Start with optional shoe-based Nike+ Sensor
- Heart Rate Monitor compatibility.
- Connects to NikePlus.com so you can view completed runs, set new goals, and interact with a community of almost 4 million runners around the world.
Other unique motivating factors that the Nike+ SportWatch GPS offer runners on-screen will include:
- Recognition for personal records
- Run Reminders that appear after five days if a run has not been logged
- Post-run acknowledgement and encouragement
The watch just won two CES (Consumer Electronics Show) Innovation Awards in the Health and Wellness and Personal Electronics categories. Which is kind of a big deal considering that CES is the world’s largest consumer tech tradeshow.
What do you think of the new Nike Gadget?
The heart rate is another thing. I think its the Polar sensor for Nike+.
