NB Power Run 2011 Photo: Look Who’s Walking
Look who’s walking at the NB Power Run 2011. I find it to be rare sight to see Kenyan runners walking in a race. Often times they would be running at a blinding speed with the lead pack and eventually finish in the top 3. The two Kenyan runners below were supposed to be running the 25K but I saw them walking at KM 23 during the Chevrolet New Balance Power Run 2011.
Kenyans have dominated all the major marathon worldwide for this year. They gained the top finish rankings and even break the course records in their respective events.
I don’t intend to belittle our fellow runners who may not be living up to their reputation as the fastest runners in the world. I just realized that anyone can have a bad day. Or a bad race.
Despite a good training and preparation, something might happen in the middle of the race. It can be a muscle cramp, upset stomach, pain, injury, or the wall.
But what becomes important is the determination to finish. Like what other runners would advice: Walk or even crawl if you must.
Keep on running.

I’ve also already encountered a number of Podium runners from some previous races, and also saw some of them walking in the middle or anywhere within the course.
Most of them stops running when they know that they can no longer chase their goal podium (within Top 3). This is because they don’t want to exert their effort for a race that they know they’re already beaten, they tend to just reserve their remaining energy for their next training or for their next target race.

Alam na kasi nila na ndi na sila aabot sa podium kaya naglakad na din sila. Takot sila sa mga Ethiopians kasi mas mabibilis pa yun sa kanila at yun yung mga nanalo kanina..

your right runningAtom, depende sa kondisyon ng runners somehow along the race something might happen, nakita ko rin sila kahapon and nakakwentohan sa sa BHS after the run.
naglalakad na sila, nasa likod pa rin tayo. suntukan na lang. hehe laban pinoy! 🙂
mukang nagbreak-in lang ng sapatos si babae. mukang yung bagong nike lunar glide 3 yung gamit. e pagkakaalam ko puro mizuno shoes ginagamit ng mga yan. haha.
pasensya na .. tao lang din sila kaya naglalakad din sila.
ang mga leon at tigre naman hayop lang – hinahunt ng mga hunters.
wala na ang mga leon at tigre na humahabol sa kanila kaya nakapaglakad na sila.
kidding aside, it just shows na .. tao nga sila. :o)
