New York Marathon 2011 Results: Geoffrey Mutai Wins With Course Record
Geoffrey Mutai wins the New York City Marathon 2011 by shattering the course record with a time of 2:05:05. The previous course record of 2:07:43 was set by Tesfaye Jifar of Ethiopia in 2001.
Emmanuel Mutai of Kenya finished second in 2:06:28 and Tsegaye Kebede third in 2:07:13.
Defending champion, Gebre Gebremariam of Ethiopia, was fourth in 2:08:00. Meb Keflezighi of the United States, who won here in 2009, finished sixth.
Geoffrey Mutai also broke the Boston Marathon record in a world-best time of 2 hours 3 minutes 2 seconds.
In he women’s category, Firehiwot Dado of Ethiopia finished first with a time of 02:23:15. Buzunesh Deba (USA) was second place with a time of 02:23:19 and Mary Keitany (KEN) followed as third with 02:23:38.
