Product Feature: New Balance Minimus Road
The New Balance Minimus comes in four types: The NB Minimus Road, NB Minimus Trail, NB Minimus Cross Trainer and the NB Minimus Life. They are all super lightweight and embraces the barefoot revolution. The NB Minimus Road, in particular, “is designed to be used with or without socks on pavement and other varied running surfaces. Supremely comfortable and extremely lightweight.” It is one of the best selling minimalist shoe to date.

The NB Minimus is designed with the philosophy that “Less is More”. So unlike other running shoes, the Minimus stripped off some parts to make it less but deliver more.
Here are the photos and feature of the NB Minimus Road.
A deconstructed REVlite midsole provides great flexibility and a featherweight cushion. It’s thinner and lighter.
The midsole is made from the lightweight REVlite.
The forefoot construction has less stitches or sewing. This reduces a few more ounces on the shoe.
Upper material in the forefoot has less seams and stitches.
The outsoles are made of lightweight blown rubber for effective bounce and return during the toe off. It has fewer high abrasive rubber parts. Only the heels have the harder rubber material.

The outsoles have some holes on it. It is not specific as to what these holes are for but they surely improve the bounce and lessen the weight.
Holes can be found at the outsoles of the NB Minimus.
The NB Minimus doesn’t have the removable sole inserts or the foot beds. The inserts are sewn with the midsole instead. It’s still soft and comfortable but don’t expect them to be as cushioned as a regular shoe.

The heel counter uses a sturdy yet soft plastic. The shoe collar is still well padded for added comfort. Not all minimalist shoe use this approach.

I ran with these at the Chevy NB Power Run and the day before the event, I stubbed my right middle toe. Why is that relevant? The larger toe box, designed to let the toes splay while running, also prevented me from aggravating my injury.
