Cebu City Marathon 2013 to be Certified by AIMS

To attract more foreign and elite marathoners, the organizers of the Cebu City Marathon aims to have the Cebu Marathon 2013 race route certified by the Association of International Marathons.

“Being certified can be a big boost to our city, as we will be put on Aims calendar and our race will get a chance to become one of the qualifying races for Boston. However, we need the support from the government, especially from the tourism sector,” Asap head Perl Jacalan said in an report from Sun Star Cebu.

AIMS is a member-based organization of more than 300 marathons from over 95 countries and territories.

Currently, the CamSur Marathon is the only AIMS Certified race in the country. There were other certified routes like the Philippine International Marathon but are no longer active.

With strong support from the running community and clubs in Cebu, Cebu City Marathon is in a good position to grow bigger since the event started in 2010.

The Cebu Marathon this year is expected to surpass the target of 6,000 runners.

I would expect the schedule of the Cebu City Marathon 2013 to be on January 6, 2013.  Final date to be announced by the organizers.
