Soleus GPS 1.0 Watch sells for 6,150. What’s the Catch?
This year, several companies introduced their line of GPS watches for runners. But none has been exciting as this great value GPS watch from Soleus. The Soleus GPS 1.0 is now in the Philippines and priced at 6,150 Php ($99 in the US). Compared to other brands, this watch has the most competitive price.
By looking at the price, I am forced to ask: Is there a catch?
The Soleus GPS 1.0 is proud to say that it has everything you need and nothing you don’t. By removing some features in a GPS watch, Soleus was able to lower the cost and make GPS watches more affordable to the runners.
So what features are included in the Soleus GPS 1.0 and which features are not included.
First, here’s a list of what you can expect with Soleus GPS 1.0.
- GPS: high-sensitivity receiver
- Distance: current & total in Miles or Km
- Pace/Speed: current & average
- Calories Burned: current & total Kcal burned
- Chrono: 1/100 second resolution
- Data Storage: 100-lap memory
- Water-Resistant: 3 ATM
- World Time: 106 cities covering all time zones
- Rechargeable Battery: USB rechargeable lithium-ion
- Weight = 2 ounces
It covers much of the basic. Distance, Pace, Time, Data Storage. These are the features I use very often with my current GPS watch. Most of the time, my watch are set to show these basic information during my runs. Having too many information on the watch can be distracting.
But what features do I miss?
- No Touch Screen Interface
- No Heart Rate Monitor
- No PC or Web Sync to upload running data
- No Virtual Partner
- No Foot Pod option
- Not for Multisport
- No Vibration Alert
These are the features that are not yet available in the Solues GPS 1.0. But the upcoming designs for the GPS 2.0 and GPS 3.0 will probably have these already. Among the missing features, it’s the Virtual Partner and the Vibration Alert that I miss a lot. The other features, I can live without them for now.
The 6,150 Php price tag for the Soleus GPS 1.0 is very reasonable. The basic features are there. As they say, “It has everything you need and nothing you don’t.” And I completely agree.
I have 3 runs while using the Soleus GPS 1.0. Watch out for a review soon.

is the battery replaceable? or is it another disposable like the garmin forerunner series?
Battery is not replaceable just like the Garmin FR.
I’d say that GPS is less important than a HRM function for a running watch. Having an objective measurement of how hard you are pushing yourself and how you recover from sessions is of more value than the exact-ish distance / pace of a run. I’ve been using an HRM for about 10 years but have only recently upgraded to a GPS enabled HRM. And that was mostly for the pretty graphs in the online dashboard.
Heart Rate was the big thing before. Now its GPS. I do incorporate HR Zones in my training before but stopped when it ran out of battery. Now I still have to replace its battery and to use it again.
Soleus Group c/o of judith staples sent me my Soleus GPS watch a few days a go and believe me Its a fantastic watch .
i used it
1. Solo Run – dec. 5
2. Soleus vs. Garmin 310xt – dec. 6
3. Will use it milo 21k.- dec.11
Review to come out in runningshield blog next week
Hi Pat, its a nice watch. I would compare it to my Garmin as well but just for a 10K. Maybe a 21K next year.
very good GPS watch… not because i got mine free :-).
but base on my intial actual testing im very satisfied with its performance. Tom and Saturday my running plan is to pass tall trees , building and covered areas and monitor the gps reception then on sunday will use it for the 21k milo race :-).
So far my comment is great watch and very resonable priced .
the inability to download your track info to your pc is a deal breaker. the nice part of having a gps is to be able to store your activity data for review afterwards.
This feature will be available with the GPS 1.0 by using a different cable connector which will be sold separately. But for now, I would manually type in the data to dailymile or other sites.
does it record your track?
HI jgi, what do you mean with track? Do you mean if it can retrace your route after the run on google/bing maps?
just 100 laps?… bitin
How long does the battery last while the GPS is on?
akala ko PhP5,535?
The SRP is 6,150 and you get a 10% discount hence 5,535.
Got mine at Wristpod BHS last Saturday as a replacement for a dead 305.
Tried it on Milo for a full marathon as pacer. Ran for 4 hours and pace was accurate enough (comparable to our garmin 205).
After 4 hours (GPS on), battery level is at 50%
Will try it this weekend for a trail ultra, hope to run it for full eight hours. I will compare its sensitivity with the 205 under forest canopy. Our 205/305 never failed us in trails and hopefully the Soleus performs just as well.
If it performs well enough, no need for that overpriced 310XT.
BTW, got the lime green, matches my NB minimus trail.
Hi mark, thanks for the feedback. Keep us updated when you tried it to the trail ultra. I’m considering if I’m going to buy one. Thanks
sorry, I ran out of batteries before the soleus..
After 7++ hours of running (GPS on), the battery indicates that I still have 30% left …
The issue I have is it reported 2km more than the actual measured distance. Race was 52km, on the garmin 205 it was 52.xx km and on the soleus, 54km
Thanks sa feedback sir, btw ask ko lang kung ano’ng color ng backlight ng black/lime green? Already saw the backlight of the black/gray colorway. Will wait for your feedback regarding it’s performance sa trail ultra and in longer hours. 🙂
blue yung backlight
L TimeStudio @ Festival Mall is currently offering 15% off on all Soleus including GPS 1.0.
Wow that’s great news! Until when?
how long is the life of he battery?
The battery life is about 8 hours long. With 3-4 runs of 5K or 10Ks every other day, the battery would last for about 10-14 days.
Good Day!
Sir, okay na po ba itong watch?
I’m planning to buy a watch na pwede ko ma-monitor yung speed or yung pace time ng pagtakbo ko.
Can you suggest any watch or is this the best affordable now in the market with this capability?
Thanks in advance for your response po!
where can i buy it in davao city?
Hi,
Where can I buy the data cable? An idea of the price? Thanks.
