Standing Like An Idiot

Runner’s World would feature a motivational poster almost every week.  This one really made me laugh.  I am guilty of just standing at a corner, staring at my wrist while waiting for the satellites to lock with my GPS watch.  It can take minutes sometimes.

The quote is an derivative of Stephen Wright’s quote, “There’s a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.”

So for runners…

I admit that I can’t run without my GPS watch.  I am so attached with this gadget.  I serves a lot of purpose.  There were a few times where I would leave it behind.  But for those serious speed runs and LSDs, I have to use them.

I don’t want to look like an idiot.  Neither do I want to leave my watch.  So I would probably find a quite spot to wait for satellite signals.  Or move around a little while waiting.  Better yet, do a little stretching or jog in place until the watch is ready.
