LUUM – II SuperMarathon is the follow-up of the much successful 1st Annual La Union Unity Marathon or LUUM – 1. The LUUM 2013 will be held on March 16, 2013 at San Fernando City, La Union.
LUUM is derived from the Ilocano lingo which means ‘ripe’ – the perfect term to coin the advocacy of iRunners which is to promote the Tourism of La Union. This is our way of telling to the rest of the world that La Union is ‘Ripe for Tourism’. Thru the yearly conduct of LUUM, iRunners believe that the world discover its pristine yet unexplored grandeur and beauty.
In LUUM – 1 We gave you the best route here in La Union , now in its 2nd edition we will give you the best of the best! The route will mesmerize you; the route is specially chosen to bring out the sturdy and ‘super runner’ in you, and most of all participants will become part again of another history of running in the Country because it is the first time that an Ultra Marathon and Regular Marathon will be featured in one single running event, thus the rational for term SuperMarathon !

Ganito po yun, lahat ng runners from Manila and adjacent places will be pick up by a shuttle or Bus, minsanan po at isang lugar lang ang pick up venue. This is to ease the concern of runners na walang kasama, so pls consider LUUM – II in your itinerary of your out-of-town runs coz im sure you’ll have a super running experience in this event! A Runners Circle (ARC) Store in Manila is conducting fun runs every thursday and its a good registration site since there are several long distance runners who visits this place. I’ve seen several out-of-town marathon and ultramarathon being posted in this store. Just an info..

Ang fare po sa shuttle back and forth is 900, pero kung maaproban ang hinihingi naming sponsorship sa mga bus company malaki po ang mababawas dun sa 900 laluna if your able to register on Dec 15 to 30. Running_Buddies-Daniel if you will join the 42K and avail of the shuttle service (back and forth) all you have to pay is P1350 that is for the registration and bus fare or shuttle. Unfortunately for the second query of yours, runners lang po ang may discount sa fares pero you can bring your company in the same bus pero regular fare po sya o sila. This is bec the shuttle service prioritizes the runners po. Marami pong salamat and hope to see you here in La Union come March 16, 2013!

3. LOCATION OF THE START/FINISH LINE: Right in front of the City Hall of San Fernando City, La Union
4. ORGANIZER: iRunners
5. CATEGORIES: 50k, 42k, 21k, 10k, 5k, 3k, and Kiddie Run (1k)
6. RACE KIT CONTENT: For 50K and 42K it will be singlet, map, silicone ‘Conquerors wrist band’ (which you have to earn or to get in the turning points) 2 bottles of energy drink – finishers tshirt one each or separate design for 50K and 42K
7. SPECIAL CATEGORIES/AWARD: Best Couple/family or group, Best in Costume, Biggest Contingent, Oldest Runner (male and female)
8. TYPE OF ROUTE: All cemented/asphalted all thru-out the entire route of both 50K, 42K, and the rest of categories
9. ROUTE DESCRIPTION: For 50K and 42K expect a lot of uphill-downhill-uphill trend all the way thru leading you to the top of the mountains ranging from 850 to 1200 ft. above sea level, the route will lead you in the midst of the forest and will let you roam to the fields of tobacco and corn. The route is a combination of Ku iKaika route, LUUM -1 and Green League Challenge, the best and never been explored, need not to mention its jaw dropping scenery, grandeur, beauty and pristine! For the record most of the route to take are not open for public transportation because the place is highly protected being the water shed area as well being the historical and tourist site of the City or the Province.
10. START OF REGISTRATION(on-line): NOVEMBER 15, 2012 thru the new feature technology of takbo.ph or EVENTPRO and facebook registration pls visit our fb fanpage (http://www.facebook.com/irunnerscommunity?fref=ts) and look for SUPERMARATHON registration caption.
11. PROMO PERIOD for Early Bird registrants: Starting NOVEMBER 15 to DECEMBER 30, 2012, due to relatively low registration fee, discount rate is applicable only to the top two categories (50K and 42K).Registrants for 50K and 42K. thru on-line online registration will get the following percentage of discount, Individual Registrants will get 15% discount both on shuttle and registration and 20% for group registration both shuttle and registration. For the group to get the maximum 20% discount, the total member of the group must be 20 runners/members or more. Members of the group can run for lower categories (21K, 10K, 5K, 3K and Kiddie Run) however the discount rate only applies to 42K and 50K.
12. SHUTTLE SERVICE: There will be two schedules of shuttle pick up and travel, one will be the morning of March 15 (Friday) or 9AM and the other will be in the afternoon 5PM to cater to those who will not be checking for Hotels.
All pick up point will be at Market-Market Taguig.
13. FARE: For those who did not avail of the discounted rate for ‘Early Bird’ promo, the shuttle fare from Manila and back is P1,000
14. TRAVEL TIME: Day travel is between 6 to 7hours and night travel is between 5 to 6hours

ronald, (tentatively) the schedule of the shuttle leaving La Union back to Manila is between 3PM to 4PM, we will get the consensus of the Runners for the final schedule. By the way, the other means where the runner can have the liberty of traveling back is thru what we call ‘stub system’ where the runners who opt to travel earlier or later than what is planned will be given a stub, the stub will serve as the bus ticket thus the runner can follow his/her own itinerary without the hassle of waiting for the trip of the other runners.
eric gonzales, like what i’ve told the other runners who asked the same question, there will be no cut-off to be imposed by the organizer, and the discretion as to the fitness of the runner to continue or not rest in the hand of the medical teams, in-short the med. team will be the one to determine if the runner can continue with the race or not.
Fellow runners, friends, this is just to inform everyone especially those runners who will have their maiden run or ‘first run’ at the 50K (ultra) and 42K (‘full mary’)- you guys will be receiving a special race certificate with your name written on the certificate and a Lei to honor you of your great achievement or feat in accomplishing or conquering the ‘super routes’ of LUUM – 2.
So for us to prepare for this well-deserved awards of yours, kindly register early, the latest registrants that we will accept and will still be considered for the award should have registered on or before February 16, 2013 or a month before the race.
Please write or indicate in BDO deposit slip (for on-line registrants) that you are a maiden runner. Once the registration starts on the official centers, the registration form will be featuring a box where the runner can check to indicate that they are maiden runner.
Good day friends! just an additional info to everyone, we will be setting up HENNA TATTOO BOTHS (not free) on March 15 within the starting area vicinity for those who wanted to put some ‘significant marks’ in their skin – this idea is inspired by the ‘warriors’ who goes on the battle with marks in their skin/face to show that they are in for the war. Because like i what i’ve said this event will transform you into a ‘super runner’ and you need all the preparation both mentally and physically even psychologically to conquer it.
We will also have a simple carboloading salo-salo on March 15 6PM and the main objective of the party more than anything else is to familiarize everyone with the route of the event to prepare you mentally to the ‘battle’ ahead.
Here’s what’s is new to LUUM-2 SuperMarathon:
(1) There will be a ‘new award’ to be introduce or the so-called ‘maiden runner award’ where the first time runner of both 50K and 42K who will be able to finish the race will be receiving a Special Certificate with their name written on it plus a lei that will be put in their neck to honor them of their ‘super’ achievement,
(2) All Runners of 42K and 50K will be using a personalized bib,
(3) Henna tattoo booth will be set-up in the registration area a day before the event (March 15, 2013) for those who want to put significant mark on their skins in preparation for the tough battle ahead,
(4) Their will be a simple ‘carbo salo-salo’ on March 15, 2013 @ 6PM which the main objective is not only to fuel the runners with energy giving delicacies but most especially to orient them regarding the route and the mechanics of the event to mentally prepare them to the tough battle ahead,
Finally (5) FINISHERS MEDAL will be awarded to the LOWER CATEGORIES (21K, 10K, and 5K) on a first registrant or first come basis. Only those registrants who are able to register starting January 2 to January 30 will be receiving the said medals, and to assure them that they will receive the said medals they will be given a tag before the start of the event to recognize them being the recipient of these medals once they reach the finish line.
*** Friends, fellow runners due to the demand of many runners who failed to register because of the HOLIDAY constraints, we will extend the early bird registration up until January 16, 2013 only. However, all the ‘super mug’ are now reserved. Nevertheless, the same discount rates still applies: 15% for individual registrants and 20% for group registrants. The shuttle discount follows.
REGARDING THE RACE KIT, all race kit can be claimed once the registration in Manila starts on Feb 04, 2013 @ ROX BGC, other centers that might be use in releasing the race kit will be announce soon!

From a runner’s perspective, i believe there are atleast 3 good reasons why LUUM-2 can be your best event especially to those who would like to jumpstart from regular marathon to ultra running:
1. The route of LUUM-2 is both challenging at the same time a runner-friendly route; The ‘super uphills’ of LUUM will train the runners and prepare them for any kind of route that they might encounter later on, be it the TNF or Mayon. LUUM offers both the elevation and difficulty that mostly featured in the Ultra events.
The route is runner-friendly because it offers asphalted route all-throughout and this gives equilibrium to the challenges brought about by numerous and arduous climbs of the route.
2. The route of LUUM traverses the mountains and forested area of La Union and this translate to plenty of oxygen to supply the lungs of the runners during their 5 to 8 hours exhausting run.
3. Finally, the event offers and never been done ‘award’
(Maiden Runner Award) that motivates the participants to conquer themselves and bring out the ‘super runner’ in them. This award belongs to ALL runners who will prove that they are indeed super runners in their own right proving that they have the courage (superman quality) to finish the race against all odds!

The schedule of registration is from Monday to Saturday, from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.The registration will run until the end of month of February so hurry and register now before we impose a limit on participants. Noi Tisoy, sir pasensya very unfortunate na nagkasakit ang staff ko for almost a week kaya di sya regular na nakapunta sa post nya sa ROX. Ok na ata sya so by monday balik work na sya at until Saturday na ang schedule nya dun.
Tur, last year we have 1100 participants sa maiden run ng LUUM, this year we are looking to triple it. yung may crack na daan ay maiksi lang at hindi sya risky sa runners. Just the same we encourage all participants of 50k and 42k to bring a headlamp. Meron din kaming measure na gagawin para mailawan kayo sa ruta. I assure you that we will do our very best to secure your safety in your run here at LUUM.
Fellow runners, friends, yours truly will be at ROX Taguig (BGC) on Monday Feb 04, 2013 at 4PM to 8PM to personally release the singlets of the early registrants (November to December 31) and the runners who registered until yesterday. Paalala lang po, only those who registered on or before January 16, 2013 can get their personalize bibs, the rest (registrants from January 17 to January 31) can get it on the 3rd week of February. Please dont expect to receive a beautiful loot bag, your loot bag will come on the day of the event simpleng plastic lang po tayo na pambalot ng race kit nyo, which includes your bib, singlet and map. We have to save every penny para maalagaan kayo ng husto sa March 15 to 16 and maibigay ang maganda at mahal na medalya, runners band, finisher singlet at loot bag ninyo. therefore the scenic route that you are offering is useless ‘coz the start of the 50k is at 2am. eh 6am palang magliliwanag. average runners will be in by 6-7am. e di kaunti rin lang makikita namin!

yung mga nanana ng 50km nakukuha nila in 2hrs 40 min,pero dahil may uphills ito malalmang makukuha nila in a little over 3hrs. kaming mga average runners makukuha yan ng 4-5hrs kaya kaunti lang ang site-seeing namin kung 2am pa ang simula. my group is still waiting if the start of the race gets changed
If you can finish a 50K ultra in 4-5 hours you are not an average runner but an ABOVE AVERAGE runner. Based on actual figures of well attended marathons (Milo, Condura, QCIM) the median finish time is about 5 hours. Which means the median/average FT in a 50K ultra will probably be in the vicinity of 6 hours.

Friends fellow runners, here’s how the program for LUUM2 will run on March 15 to 16, 2013:
On March 15:
1. 8:00AM – Runners who availed of the shuttle service will be picked-up at Market-Market Taguig. The exact time of departure from Taguig is 8AM no more no less . iRunners will implement strict implementation of schedule, no excuses, no special treatment, no special case and this is the reason we have posted the sched more than month before event.
*** Only morning schedule is available, the noon schedule is not sufficient to carry the full shuttle capacity of 50 passengers
*** To those interested to avail of the second shuttle service pls post you interest here, as of the moment there are 13 runners on the waiting list.
2. 2:00 to 3:00PM: iRunners will assist all participants in their lodging houses/hotels to secure their comfortable stay
3. 6:00PM: A simple Carboloading Party or “Carbo salo-salo” will be conducted at DMMMSU Mid Campus. Runners will be briefed on the route of the event, they will also be given info about the City and the Province and recommend where they can have their short vacation or get-away after the race. Specialized booth will also be set-up in the same venue where the runners can avail of henna tattooing, buy souvenir items among others.
4. 7:30 to 10:00PM: Onsite registration will be conducted in the Kubo or infront of the Start and Finish area.
On March 16
1. 12:30AM: Short program will be conducted:
– Opening Prayer
– La Union Hymn
– Brief brief
– Moral support speech
– Lighting of Flying Lanterns
-Gunstart for 50K at exactly 1:00AM
-Gunstart for 42K at exactly 1:30AM
-Gunstart for 21K at exactly 4:30AM
-Gunstart for 10K at exactly 5:00AM
-Gunstart for 5/3K at exactly 5:15AM
2. Awarding will be done at exactly 8AM
– Early Bird Registrants will be awarded.
– “Most Hakot Award” will be awarded with certificate and token to individual/s who recruited or responsible for organizing a group of participant plus the group w
– Maiden runners will be awarded with lei upon reaching the finish line, they will also get their personalized certificate at designated booths. Maiden runners will also have a single and group picture taking.
– All Runners Groups will also be awarded and with Certificate
– The oldest male and female runner will be awarded with certificate and token
– Runner/s with best attire/get-up will be awarded with certificate and token
– Best couple/family award will be given away
– Best Group will be awarded with Certificate and Cash Award
– Biggest Contingent will be awarded with Certificate and Cash prize
– The last runner to arrive will be awarded with Perseverance Award
– Top 3 winners for every category (male and female) will be awarded with medal and cash
*** Free Massage booth will be available from 6AM to 10AM most especially to 21K to 50K runners
*** Loot bag will be released at designated booths
Sir Randy, May mga water stops and first aid stations ba along the way for the 42K and 50K? Magbibigay din ba kayo ng bananas or energy gels along the way? What kind of support do we expect along the way? Thanks.
Tur we will have 24 water stations all throughout the route of 50k. we will provide banana and egg and honey, and talking about energy gels, pure honey will replace that. sir we will provide all the support needed by the runners: marshall, police, medics, brgy tanod and lots of water hydration stations with ice especially in the last 8kilometers of the race

myfirst50k, salamat salamat, but i will only accept all the praises fully once i am able to see the last runner put his last stride in the finish line, marami pa pong gagawin huh and i pray that Heavenly Father will always be here and there until everything is done for this event. Friends pls take note of the following reminders with regards to the registration for LUUM-2 SuperMarathon:
1. For those runners (particularly 21K, 42K, 50K) who would want to avail or secure the following: SINGLET, FINISHER MEDAL, FINISHER T-SHIRT AND RUNNERS BANDs, you are advised to register ON OR BEFORE FEBRUARY 28, 2013 – if you register beyond the said date, PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT WE CANNOT ASSURE you that you can still avail of these items because we will order them in advance and prioritize the runners who registered on the prescribe date.
2. The registration for LUUM2 will be EXTENDED on March 15, 2013 at exactly 10:00 in the evening, however, as we mentioned above, we cannot promise as to the availability of the said items – at the most, we can only offer FREE-SIZE FINISHER SHIRT, but we cannot promise the availability of your finishers medal.
For security reasons, Runners who registered early (on or before Feb.28) will be given a tag, to ensure that they will get their well-deserved medals. And with regards to the t-shirt, the finishers t-shirt are packed in a ”personalized loot bag” to assure the runners who registered on the prescribe date that they will not missed their t-shirt and their respective sizes.
3. The registration at ROX BGC will be extended until March 06, 2013 but again the same rule that is expressed above will be applied for those runners who will register beyond February 28, 2013.
4. Runners resident of La Union will get a special rate for 3k and 5K categories, if they opt to run using their own t-shirt/singlet they can join the run by paying ONLY P48 – again this promo is only for La Union residents and only applies to 3K and 5K categories.
5. BOTTOM LINE, please don’t miss the date (FEBRUARY 28, 2013) for you to secure your participation here in LUUM-2 Super Marathon.

The registration date that will assure the runner of a finishers medal and finishers shirt HAS EXPIRED, and this means that there IS NO ASSURANCE that the late registrants can get their medal and shirt, even the size of the singlet. However, the registration is up to the 15th of March (from 9AM to 10PM) for the late registrants to give chance to runners to join this once in a lifetime event. LUUM2 Super Marathon participants, we are strongly encouraging you to attend the “carbo-salo-salo” and briefing of runners on March 15, 2013 at exactly 5PM here in DMMMSU Mid La Union Campus. This gathering is very important for so many reasons:
1. We will orient you thru power point presentation of the dynamics of the route – this will surely help you prepare mentally for the super and tough battle ahead.
2. We give your tags to assure you that you will get you most deserved medals and shirt.
3. We will present or ‘walk you thru’ to the most beautiful tourist sites in the province – via power point presentation.
4. We will have a simple carbo-loading salo-salo and ask each interested participant to pay P130 for the meal (Carbonara, Wheat Bread with pineapple Marmalade, and Orange juice).
5. We will set-up a souvenir stall where you can buy souvenirs from the event and the province
6. We will set a henna tattoo booth for those runners who want to symbolize something in their skin.
To all interested participants and all registered participants of LUUM2 SuperMarathon, the event is an ALL-FILIPINO event much like its maiden version. Foreign runners are very much welcome to join and experience (“taste”) LUUM, however, they cannot compete for the prize money. Should a foreign runner wish to join the event, they will get special discount for their participation or ten percent (10%) in all category.
Fellow runners, especially those who will be running for the 21K, 42K and 50K Category, pls be advice to bring your own WATER CONTAINER or Water Belt. We have plenty of water stations along the route, however we would want to practice environmental concern (and practicality too) by not using plastic cups (we can’t afford to buy paper cups which is more expensive). All we have to do is to refill from the water stations, maraming salamat po, pls inform the rest of our friends who will be running for LUUM.

Obviously, iRunners did not prioritize the safety of their runners during the run.
They had lots of volunteers, but they were clumped in some few designated places only. Too many volunteers were at the start/finish area with nothing to do.
There were no marshals in dangerous places (e.g. steep roads, sharp curves) and there were only a few to handle motorists. There were also many astray dogs.
