Marathon Training is Tough, But It’s All Worth the Effort

Running is highly recommended by doctors and fitness professionals to improve health and to stay fit. I came to love running for its health benefits. Since then, I progressed from running 10K races to finishing marathons.

My training for a 10K run and a marathon are totally different. For a 10K event, my training plan is not that demanding. In a week, I would probably run a couple of 5 kilometers on weekdays and a 7 or 8 kilometers on a weekend. I would only spend one hour on the road or even less. After 3 or 4 weeks, I can say I am ready for the 10K race.

Since a marathon is about 4 times more than a 10K, training for it is like 4 times the effort as well. I would train at longer distances up to 32 kilometer and would be on the road for up to 4 hours. Training for a marathon can take as long as 6 months.

Running a marathon is doable and I have done it several times. But every time I train for my next marathon, I have a hard time keeping up with my training plan. As I reach training runs of more than 30K, I would breakdown at some point. I would need to cut back a week of training to recover.

This is what they call sports fatigue. Runners would feel the lack of stamina and even feel sick in the middle of training. I really can’t afford to get sick, since valuable time will be lost just to recuperate. Then I can’t train as much as I want to. I learned that getting sick is usually a result of overtraining. Runners would push themselves to a limit that their body can no longer handle.

When I’m following a training plan, I can’t afford to miss a day in training. So I make sure I get enough rest to recover after a long and tiring run to avoid sports fatigue. I eat a lot to accumulate enough energy for the next training. I also take supplements regularly that contain vitamins and minerals that my body needs.

During the Unilab Run United Philippine Marathon last October, I heard about the new Enervon Activ. I couldn’t miss the new product from Enervon since it was prominent in kilometer markers for the whole 42.195 kilometers that I ran. After racing in the RUPM I tried taking Enervon Activ in the next couple of days.

Enervon Activ

Somehow, it was able to help me keep up with my training. I felt more energized during my workout, and somehow felt even more productive during the day. I checked their website and found loads of information about it – pretty cool to find out that Rio dela Cruz was also taking the product.

So aside from drinking Enervon HP which is my usual post-workout recovery drink, I am now taking Enervon Activ as well. I like it since I really can feel the boosting energy. It’s like after an hour of running, I still feel I can keep on going. Hopefully by taking Enervon Activ, it can make me more consistent in my training and keep from getting sports fatigue. Thinking about it, if I was able to complete 4 marathons this year, let’s see if Enervon Activ can help me do more in 2013!
