Saucony’s Guide 7: The Perfect Blend of Lightness and Guidance
Building on an award-winning legacy, the latest generation Guide is designed to extend the limits of performance innovation on many levels while optimizing the unique and entire stride of the runner, enhancing the overall running experience.
Fortifying its position as the fastest growing brand in the run specialty retail channel, global performance running footwear and apparel brand Saucony today unveiled the Guide 7, the brand’s highly-anticipated update of its flagship stability performance shoe.
“While others have been discussing the future of running shoe technology, we’ve been building it, continually challenging the status quo by focusing on the entire runner’s stride, not just the moment of foot strike,” said Pat O’Malley, senior vice president of global product for Saucony.
“Building on the award-winning legacy, the design team was challenged to push the boundaries of innovation forward in building the new Guide 7. Among the lightest shoes in its class, the Guide model remains uncommon in the industry for its blend of engineered stability, cushioning and flexibility not typically found in a stability trainer. By combining insights from hundreds of runners with extensive data from our lab, we set out to further refine every element of this new model. Unquestionably, just as its predecessors have done before, the latest chapter of the Guide story will again set new benchmarks – not only in the stability category at run specialty, but in the industry as a whole,” added O’Malley.
Multi-Award Winning Heritage
Since the original debut in 2008, the Guide’s award-winning heritage includes being twice named the Independent Running Retailers Association (IRRA) “Shoe of the Year” (2009, 2010), Runner’s World “Editor’s Choice (2012) and Runner’s World “International Shoe of the Year” (2012).
Guide 7: Reflecting Rigorous Product Standards
The Guide 7 represents the longest development initiative in the brand’s history and reflects the rigorous standards that the product team has set for themselves, the brand and the industry. The Guide 7 has been through the most thorough testing program that the company has ever endured, putting more runner feedback into this shoe than any other shoe in the brand’s history. After an exhaustive fit test, 75% of tested runners preferred the Guide 7 over its leading competitors.
So who can run in the Guide 7? The answer is: almost anyone. Pronators appreciate the light stability and guidance, while neutral runners find that it offers a touch of support without over-correcting their foot through the gait cycle. It really hits a sweet spot for a large percentage of the running population. Its fully decoupled SRC (Super Rebound Compound) crash pad in the Guide 7 heel area provides a smoother transition at foot strike. Moreover, the outsole of the new Guide’s forefoot has been flared by 2mm for a more supportive platform during the latter stages of the gait cycle. The Guide’s 8mm heel-to-toe offset positions the foot during impact in a way that creates a greater range of motion for the Gastrocnemius-Soleus-Achilles tendon system, allowing for a more powerful running stride. The end result: the Guide is the ultimate training partner, providing both stability and flexibility in a surprisingly lightweight package.
Saucony has upped the Guide 7’s midsole technology game by adding a heel-to-toe PowerGrid insert for lightweight propulsion. The revolutionary PowerGrid foam is 15% lighter and 30% more durable than traditional EVA. Deeper flex grooves and improved toe-spring ensure the new Guide moves with the runner. At a mere 10 oz, the Guide 7 is significantly lighter than any other shoe in its class.
