Wahoo Blue HR Review – Heart Rate Monitor
I have used several heart rate monitors in the past but Wahoo Blue HR has a lot of features that made me wear it more often. It is comfortable to use and comes with an iPhone app that is easy to understand. I also love the fact that it can be used with other fitness apps which you may already be currently using. Below is my Wahoo Blue HR review.
Wahoo Blue HR Review
PROs
Soft and Comfortable Chest Strap. The strap is just small and very light. You can hardly feel it. The strap is made of soft material. It doesn’t irritate or cause blisters when using it. It’s washable too.
Bluetooth 4.0 Technology. Other HRMs use ANT+ to connect with other devices. However, ANT+ requires an accessory like the Wahoo Key for ANT+. With Bluetooth, no keys or adapters are needed. Just strap on the HRM and the iPhone 5 quickly connects to the Wahoo Blue HR.
Heart Rate Training Made Easy. Training based on Heart Rate seems complicated. You need to compute, find out your zones and keep track. Wahoo Blue HR and the Wahoo Fitness App makes Heart Training easier by using the Burn and Burst Zones.
I like the Burn and Burst Zones. It’s easier to understand. It’s even easier to track with the Wahoo Blue HR and the Wahoo Fitness App. There is a screen to tell you which zone you are in. It’s being shown in real time so you wil know when to hold back and when to push the pace.
Compatible with several apps. You can use Wahoo Blue HR with several other iOS apps like MapMyFitness, Runkeeper, Runmeter, Endomondo, Strava, Runtastic, and more. No need to download the Wahoo Fitness App. However, you’d miss the Burn and Burst information that is only available with the Wahoo Fitness App.
I am also able to export the run data from Wahoo Fitness App with the Nike+ Running App. SO my runs with Wahoo Fitness can still be in sync to my Nike+ Profile. It’s where I have kept my mileage logs since last year so I want to maintain it.
CONs
No HR Graphs in the app – There is no HR graphs provided. I would like to see how my heart rate would go up and down over a certain interval. This is not provided easily in the app. You can only view the average heart rate. But you can forward the raw data from the Wahoo Fitness App to your email address. All details are provided and you can use spreadsheet functions to make a graph from the raw data.
Wahoo Blue HR Review Summary
Wahoo Blue HR is an excellent heart rate monitor for your iPhone. Since it is using Bluetooth, there is no need for a separate adaptor. It runs smoothly with no interrupts. The Burn and Burst rate is one of the unique and best feature. It helps me decide when it is best to hold back on the speed and when to give it a push. I find myself training smarter with the Wahoo Blue HR and it’s Wahoo Fitness App.
