Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Review: Smooth Ride from Toe to Heel
The Mizuno Wave Rider is a winner of the 2014 Best Update from Competitor Magazine. It is designed for neutral runners looking for a lightweight shoe with ample cushioning and support. It’s durable outsole makes it ideal for running in long distances.
I have been wearing the Mizuno Wave Rider for more than 3 weeks. I have accumulated about 50 kilometers with the shoe including a 10 miler race. I don’t usually run long distance with a new shoe. I prefer have a long break in before taking it for some serious runs. But the Mizuno Wave Rider felt good on my first try that I took wore them right away at the Yakult 10 Miler 2014. Below is my Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Review.
Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Review
PROs
Smooth Ride. The technology speaks for itself. The Mizuno Wave Rider 17 provides a smooth ride with its flexibility and cushion. The landing on the forefoot is soft and glides well to the rest of the foot upon contact with the ground. Forefoot runners would surely love this shoe.
Very Durable. Mizuno continues to use its highly durable x10 outsole. I have proven this to be a long lasting shoe.
Classic Colors. While a lot of shoes nowadays have bright neon colors, Mizuno Wave Rider has classic blue, yellow, and white for its colorways. These colors are easy to match with running apparels and even when you dress down to jeans or shorts for leisure walks. 😀
CONs
Slightly Heavy. While the Mizuno Wave Rider is a lightweight performance shoe, it is slightly heavier than other lightweight shoes under its category. Still it is a great shoe for some speeding training and even for a race. I even wore it during the Yakult 16K and was able to finish at a decent time.
Not Reflective. The Wave Rider 17 have no reflective material. It may not be the best pair to use when running in low light areas with speeding vehicles especially at night.
Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Review Summary
Overall, the Mizuno Wave is a great training shoe for neutral runners and mild pronators. It’s ideal for long runs while keeping it light so you can add up speed routines during weekdays. The rounded lateral forefoot design was noticeable as it provides a smooth landing upon impact.
