Jaybird Reign Review: Fitness with a Fashion

Jaybird Reign is a very fashionable fitness tracker. It’s fit for everyday use. I have been using it for almost a month and the tracking has been easy and fast. I also love the way it tells the time. It’s geeky yet cool. The Reign mobile app would need more features to compete with the other fitness trackers but Jaybird Reign is on track in adding more functionality.

Modern and Fashionable Design – The design is a big attraction with the Jaybird Reign. It has a modern touch with its soft silicone strap and magnetic pin-locking-system. It small enough not to bother you when doing normal activities. It is fit for day-to-day use. The main part of the Jaybird Reign is the Reign Pod that can removed between different straps.

The Reign Pod can be removed and used in other straps.

Multiple Strap Options – Jaybird Reign comes with multiple straps designed for specific purposes. The main band has a nice magnetic lock is best for everyday use. It has 2 extra straps for different sizes of wrist. A silicone Sports Band is provided and are best used for fitness activities like running, lifting and even swimming. And finally an ankle strap to be used for biking.

Several straps are included in the box.

Fast Sync – The Jaybird Reign app is available for both iOS and Android. All data gathered by the Reign Pod is viewable using the mobile app. The apps syncs very fast with the pod. You’d get your fitness progress in a flash!

Automatic Activity Detection – Unlike other trackers, Jaybird Reign can automatically detect what activity you are doing. It can tell what sport and even if you are swimming. It can automatically track sleep and provides a summary of nightly sleep quality and time slept. So no need for manual buttons.

Go-Zone Feature – The Go-Zone feature is unique to the Jaybird Reign. No other fitness tracker has it. Go-Zone gives you advice on how active you can be as you start the day. You might feel fatigues or tired and make an excuse not to be active. But Go-Zone can tell if still have the spark to go further. Or if you really need a break for the day. It can adjust your daily goals based on your Go-Zone score.

Go Zone score depends on the Heart Rate Variation (HRV) 

Cool Time Display – The Reign can tell the time through its LED display. It quite complicated but it’s cool when you get to master it.

Very Basic App Functions – Aside from the Go-Zone, Reign shows only the raw data in a nice graph but lacks more analysis. It also lacks a history of previous days or weeks. However, Jaybird is expected to add more features in the app in the coming months.  Here’s a list of future updates.

5 Days Battery Life – Using the Jaybird Reign would last about 5 days on a full charge. This is good enough compare to using your mobile phone as a fitness tracker but it still lags behind other fitness trackers that can last up to 7 days or even more.

Jaybrid Reign Review Summary

Jaybird Reign is a promising fitness tracker. It’s automatic detection of activities and sleep patterns makes it very easy to use. I don’t need to remind myself to press a button to tell Jaybird Reign that I am doing a sports activity or that I am ready to sleep. Reign does that automatically and can sync the information fast to the Jaybird Reign mobile app.

Jaybird Reign is especially great for the fitness enthusiast with a flair for fashion. The straps are really stylish with several straps included in the box. The magnetic pin-locking system provides a comfortable fit. It’s small and light which does not bother my hands when I do normal activities like typing on my PC.

Currently, the mobile app lacks features already present in other fitness trackers. I does not show a history of your activities but only shows today’s goal. The next day, it resets to zero and won’t show the progress from the previous day. But the brains at Jaybird have updates coming up in a few months that will provide these historical data and even more.
