Nike Women’s 10k Manila 2015 Race Report
Last May 9, Filinvest City was filled with over 8,000 women for the first Nike Women’s 10K Manila. I’m happy to be part of this night race just for women.
As I was heading to the venue, it was drizzling and I wish it will continue until the end of the race to keep us a little cooler. I always prefer running under the rain than under the heat of the sun.
Starting Line
The starting line was filled with so much energy. Talk about girl power out on the streets that night! Fireworks marked the start of the 2015 Nike We Run Manila All-Women’s 10k Race and we were off for a happy run. It’s my first time to run around Filinvest at night.
As I have been running on and off, well, more of no training for this race, I will be running just to have fun. I have to admit though I did get caught up in the atmosphere and ran the first mile much faster than I should have.
The Race
The route took us to flat roads and rolling hills. There were long tables of cold water and energy drink to provide ample hydration for runners in the very humid night. I was so thankful for these as I need to stop at almost every station to get and pour a cup over my head and back.
Most of the darker portions of the route were well lit by street lights and some additional spot lighting. There were parts of the roads, however that I find dark. Because of the wet ground due to the drizzle, some scattered paper cups and dips and bumps, I have to slow down and be alert to avoid a trip or a fall.
Overall, it was a nice run through Filinvest at night. I’m thankful to marshals, who direct runners especially on roads where runners were converging, and spectators, who were encouraging the girls to keep on running. I finished happy at 1:15.
Race Village
After crossing the finish line, finishers were directed to the multi-level parking that was converted into the race village.
Level 1 was the Finisher’s area where participants were given the loot which included a Nike shirt, a banana, bottled water, and Gatorade. The next level was the Baggage Area, which is way better and organized compared to the Nike We Run Manila 2013 in Marikina Stadium. Level 3 was the #BetterForIt floor where Nike offered their NTC Workouts led by Nike NTC Ambassadors. The roof-top was the Sky Lounge, where you can see sponsors’ booths, a lounge area, a hair-braiding station and the DJ mixing some great music!

Beside parking area was the eye-catching Nike Dome. Inside, it’s air-conditioned and had bean bags where ladies seemed to be so relaxed sitting or lying down and gazing at the flashed images at the dome screen.
After bidding goodbye to friends, it was time to head back to the hotel. It was a fun night to be out running and celebrating with the girls.
Thank you Jazz Runner for these photos with Cheryl and the Eon Ladies!

The Nike Women’s 10k Manila is the culmination of a series of initiatives by Nike since January, connecting, inspiring and enabling women to reach their fitness goals, and achieve their personal best. It is both the first all-women race Nike has organized in the Philippines, and also the biggest all-women race in the country to date. #WeRunMNL is part of Nike’s largest women’s initiative, #BetterForIt. More than just being a campaign, #betterforit is a call to action for girls to go beyond their fears, insecurities, and excuses to leave their comfort zone and achieve their personal bests.
