5K Training Plan Apps for Smartphones

Need some 5K Training plans? Want to start running and finish a 5K run? There’s an app for that! Since majority of runners bring their phones when they run, there are several apps that acts like a coach to get you from zero to 5K in about 8 weeks.

Here are some 5K Training Plans in mobile apps that you can download for your smartphones. Some are free but most of them costs from 2-4 USD.

Recommended Mobile Apps with 5K Training Plans

C25K – 5K Trainer FREE – (Go from Couch Potato to Running the 5K) (FREE) – The C25K is great for beginners and inexperienced runners.  With its 5K training plans, you can be transformed from a couch potatoes to a 5K runners in 8 weeks. The program is easy to follow with a mix of running and walking to build up the endurance to finish a 5K race. The C25K can be downloaded for FREE with an in-app option to remove the ads.  It’s a still full version even if you don’t get the in-app purchase.  View in iTunes.

5K Runner: 0 to 5K Trainer. Run 5K Free (FREE) – Get in shape and lose weight in 8 weeks with the 5K Runner.  It follows a similar run-walk interval to build the endurance gradually to finish a 5K.  Train for just 30 minutes for 3 days per week. 5K Runner features a voice coach, compatible with music apps, Nike+ and other GPS apps.  The free version has the complete features but only includes the program for the first 4 runs. Easy 5K with Jeff Galloway ($3.99) – This app uses Jeff Galloway’s method which is design for both beginners and seasoned runners.  Jeff’s unique Run-Walk-Run training method uses the principles of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) to quickly, and safely improve your endurance. The 5K training plan with Jeff Galloway goes for 7 weeks only.  View in iTunes.

Couch to 5K® – Running App, Training Coach and GPS Tracker ($1.99) – An official Couch to 5K® training app from Active.com let’s you traing for just 20 to 30 minutes, three times a week, for nine weeks, and you’ll be ready to finish your first 5K (3.1-mile) race. Couch to 5K features voice prompts, battery saving options, music support, and graphs to track your progess. Visit the Couch to 5K app website.

Ease into 5K: run walk interval training program ($2.99) – Ease into 5K is like having a running coach on your smartphone.  The app works alongside your music apps.  It’s 5K training plan let’s you train for 8 weeks, with workouts of 30-40 minutes, 3x a week. View in iTunes.

Run 5K Pro ($3.99) – Run 5K Pro has an easy 5K Training Plan with 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week, for 7 weeks.  The app features inspirational quotes keep you motivated while running and motivational tips on running with each training session.  It also comes with calorie counting and detailed statistics for pace, distance, time and other parameters.
