Masskara Half Marathon 2018 Race Recap

We went home to Bacolod for a quick vacation. Since we are home for a weekend, we decided to join a run. It’s been a while that Jinoe and I left home together for a run and it’s only in Bacolod that we can do that because we have someone to look after Gab.

Bacolod City Masskara Half Marathon 2018 Race Review

We signed up for a 10k run. Gunstart was at 5am at the front of the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol Building. There’s no road closure, except at some roads leading to Talisay, but traffic enforcers where situated at critical intersections to assist runners.

It was a hot day for a run and I was glad I was not running the half marathon! There were enough hydration stations along the route but considering the heat, an ice-cold water would be great. Those who are running the half would definitely need more than just water and would appreciate an energy drink. At the turn around point, at the DPWH Weigh Bridge, was a feast! They served chicken, piaya, some fruits and candies. A taste of Bacolod for runners who came from other cities to run in the City of Smiles.

Back on the road today. Joined the Masskara Half Marathon. They served chicken, piaya, some fruits and candies at the turn around point but I would love it more if they have ice-cold water and energy drink along the route. It was so hot but I had a great time running. This run was better compared to the last one we joined in Bacolod. Overall, the event was well-organized. In a way, the roads were well managed but needs more signage like KM markers. I just saw markers at turn around points.

I hope Masskara Half Marathon will be more organized next time – better baggage counters, better finisher shirt claiming and (water/hydration by the finishline) so that more runners, especially those outside of Bacolod will continue to sign up and visit the city during the Masskara Festival.
