Adidas Unveils 4DFWD Running Shoes
adidas Philippines launched its 4DFWD running shoes last Saturday during a kick-off event at Pretty Hudge Obstacles in SM Aura. Close to a hundred runners from the adidas Runners Manila (aRM) and other running and fitness enthusiasts attended the event.
The 4DFWD running shoe utilizes bowtie-shaped lattices in the midsole, offering impressive energy returns. The 3D-printed midsole transforms vertical pressure from footstrikes into a horizontal force which helps propel the runner forward.

adidas collaborated with Carbon’s Digital Light Synthesis to bring this industry-first midsole with bowtie lattices. It’s also scientifically proven to provide forward motion regardless if you are a forefoot, midfoot, or heel striker.
“The 4DFWD is the brand’s most advanced running shoe yet, which enables runners to reach their full potential by giving them that non-stop smooth forward transition they need when running. Through this kick-off run and the trial opportunities that will follow, we’re excited to share this latest innovation with fellow Filipino runners,” said Jen Dacasin, adidas Philippines Brand Activation Manager.
Runners who want to try out the 4DFWD may join aRM’s weekly runs for the remaining Tuesdays and Thursdays of September. adidas is allotting ten pairs of 4DFWD shoes that attendees can review and test during these running sessions.

adidas 4DFWD Design
Upper
The 4DFWD has a Primeknit+ upper that is similar to what’s in the Ultraboost 22. The upper’s continuous woven layer makes it more streamlined and aerodynamic. It allows the shoe to have more density in areas that need more strength, such as the lace line.
Meanwhile, the shoe has a hybrid three-piece slipper tongue thanks to its pre-loaded rubber islets. Overall, the shoe has a glove-like fit because of these features.
Midsole
Unlike other shoes, the 4DFWD does not have foam in its midsole. Instead, it uses Elastosmeric Polyurethane 44 (EPU 44), which is super strong and elastic. The unique lattice pattern allows it to counteract braking forces and turn them into forwarding forces.
The 4DFWD’s midsole also does not deform or heat as much as a traditional foam midsole during long runs.
Outsole
The adidas 4DFWD uses the Continental Rubber outsole with a snow tire design. The outsole is also quite durable and has one continuous pattern and does not have any shank.

The adidas 4DFWD sells for P12,000 at adidas.com.ph and its store outlets. It comes in several colorways, such as Impact Orange and Cloud White for men. Meanwhile, women can enjoy Grey Five and Cloud White iterations of the shoe.
adidas 4DFWD Kick-Off Run
During the 4DFWD Kick-Off Run, attendees were grouped into nine teams. adidas Runner’s Manila coaches like Jett San Juan, Nylah Bautista, Nikki Tores, and Martie Plaza were assigned to assist each group.
Each team went through a relay run, running drills, a blind rope race and an obstacle course designed to test the 4DFWD’s exemplary features. Team 7 was declared the winner after the event and each member was given a pair of adidas 4DFWD.
