MILO Unites Philippine Sports with the Gathering of Champions
MILO marked its 60th anniversary with the Gathering of Champions event held on October 11, bringing together over 60 sports partners, clinics, and institutions from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The initiative aims to rally the nation through sports, showcasing the brand’s commitment to fostering active lifestyles and supporting grassroots athletes in the Philippines.
MILO Recognizes Milestones of Sports Partners
As a leader in promoting physical activity among Filipino families, MILO® organized the event to express gratitude and recognize the achievements of its various sports partners. The event highlighted the organization’s mission of inclusivity and accessibility in sports. Among those present were representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd), the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), and the Philippine Olympic Commission (POC), who shared their achievements in advancing the country’s sports programs.
“It takes a nation to build champions. In this case, it takes MILO® to build grassroots programs that will eventually go and develop champions […] from barangays to [going] beyond, in terms of support and programs [in which they have] participated. [The support of MILO®] extends beyond athletes, [as MILO®] supports every child,” said PSC commissioner Matthew Gaston.
Support for Indigenous Peoples Games
Commissioner Gaston highlighted the PSC’s milestones in partnership with MILO®, particularly through the 2024 Indigenous Peoples (IP) Games. MILO® provided nutritional support to grassroots athletes participating in events held in Ilocos Sur and Negros Occidental, with upcoming games scheduled for Palawan and General Santos.
Chairman of the PSC, Richard Bachmann, expressed his appreciation: “We believe in the dedication of our current icons, whose impact uplifts aspirations of those still at the grassroots level. […] I would like to extend my gratitude to MILO® Philippines, for being one of our partners in promoting physical wellness and health. Let us work even harder to build more victories and discover new grassroots talents who will become our future flag-bearers. Happy 60th anniversary to MILO® Philippines!”
Honoring Contributions to Philippine Sports
At the event, all sports partners received a trophy in recognition of their contributions to the over 2 million Filipinos engaged in various disciplines, including taekwondo, sepak takraw, basketball, football, swimming, and more. The event emphasized the collective achievements in championing MILO®’s mission to improve sports accessibility and inclusivity throughout the nation.
Future Initiatives and Commitment to Inclusivity
Veronica Cruz, Senior Vice President and Business Executive Officer of Beverages and Confectionery at Nestlé Philippines, expressed pride in the brand’s partnerships: “Across PWDs, women in sports, Indigenous peoples and grassroots athletes, we are proud to have fostered strong partnerships with institutions in providing a bridge for more children and Pinoys to get into sports.”
Looking ahead to 2025, MILO® announced plans for expanding its initiatives, including more legs of the National MILO® Marathon and a broader reach in grassroots sports programs such as MILO® Barangay Liga and MILO® Safe Swim. The company continues to collaborate with key organizations to sustain and grow these efforts.
