HOKA Run Club Holds Trail Discovery Weekend
Close to 100 runners joined the HOKA Trail Discovery Weekend held last November 24 at Timberland heights San Mateo, Rizal. The event was meant to promote trail running to HOKA Run Club members and introduce the new HOKA trail shoes- the HOKA Challenger ATR 7 and the HOKA Speedgoat 6.
Participants ran a 5 kilometer road-to-trail course that started with rolling concrete pavement before hitting the nearby dirt road. The short loop course took runners to sections littered with fallen leaves, mud puddles, and gravel.
Romi Garduce, RD Neville Ran the Trails
Renowned mountain climber Romi Garduce also graced the event and ran the trails sporting the HOKA Challenger ATR 7. Garduce is the first Filipino mountain climber to conquer the “Seven Summits,” which is composed of the highest mountains in the world including Mount Everest.
“It is good to see bumabalik ang sport ng trail running. Something that is both enjoyable but in a different running environment,” he said.
Neville Nanois, an accomplished race director for trail runs, remarked: “We certainly hope that the HOKA Run Club participants enjoyed their trail running experience and were encouraged to join some of our races in the future.”
Initial Thoughts on the HOKA Speedgoat 6
HOKA PH presented us with the opportunity to try out the Speed Goat 6 during the short trail run. The first thing I noticed about the shoe was it’s snug fit. The toe off was also exceptional all thanks to the pair being available in Wide Foot option.
The 4mm lugs provided an excellent grip in most trail surfaces. The cushioning were also great and was able to limit the shock to the foot whenever you strike the ground hard. Thus, you feel less foot fatigued and is able to cover longer distances.
Once we tried it out a few more times on the trails, we will give you a more detailed report about the shoes performance.
Did you know that the HOKA Speedgoat trail shoes got its name from American Ultramarathoner Karl Meltzer’s monicker – “SpeedGoat?” Meltzer has 45 podium finishes, the most 100-mile trail race wins in history.

“We want to draw more runners to hit the trails and experience a different form of running. For runners and nature lovers as well, this course is good exposure to the unique challenges that comes with the sport,” said Sharon Salvacion, a representative from HOKA Philippines.
