Cebu City Marathon on January 10, 2010

The city of Cebu is the capital of Cebu island and is the oldest city in the country. It is known for excellently crafted guitars, and other stringed instruments. Cebu has preserved its natural attractions and has become one of the most popular tourist and business destinations in the country.

This is a chance to fly and visit the Queen City of the South and be part of the first full marathon event outside of the islands of Luzon for 2010. The race is scheduled just a week before the Sinulog festivities so runners can extend their stay and enjoy the celebrations as well as other tourist spots in the province.

Countdown

The registration of the race will start in September. Other details for the race event will be available soon.

This is organized by the Cebu Executive Runners Club. The city government will allocate a total of P295,500 for the prizes of the top performers. The men and women’s open champion will receive P50,000 each, while the second to 10th placers in the 42-kilometer action will also receive cash prizes.

The top male and female finishers in the 21km and 5km run will get P15,000. Commemorative medals and t-shirts will be given away to all the finishers of the full marathon.

The starting line will be at the IT Park in Lahug. 42K runners will be pass thru the city Capitol, Osmeña Boulevard, all the way to Sto.Niño Shrine, the famous Magellan’s cross, Fuente Osmeña rotunda to Ayala Center at the Cebu Business Park. Participants will pass through three fly-overs and make a u-turn at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center, to St. Joseph Parish Church in Mabolo for the final U-turn and straight all the way to the IT Park for finish.

A great start for the year 2010. Running is definitely all over the country. With the Sinulog Festival just a week after, it is a sure winner for Cebu City. Nice website a well!

this will be a good race for the elite team bald runner and a reason to visit cebu city and visit friends & relatives.

Im also excited with this race. It's nice to see a major race outside Manila. This one has strong support from the government of Cebu. The government will really play an important role if we want more races outside Manila.

Wow, this is exciting. Hmmmn, kasabay ng Mizuno Infinity Run. Pero touring Cebu on foot seems really exciting. Isip-isip...

Wow again. I just visited the marathon website. This seems to be a very organized race - professionally done. I like the fact that there is a website with real useful information, that routes are already laid out, and that a lot of planning and thinking went into it. And its still four months away from the race! Kudos to the Cebuanos. You make us Filipinos proud. Thank you for racing the bar.

I suppose I will run this in support of a very good initiative. God, save me from marathon addiction!
